Our Methods

School of Tomorrow along with Accelerated Christian Education (A.C.E.) is a proven programme which has been used for more than 30 years in over 8 000 schools worldwide. In South Africa there are over 17 000 learners making use of this system. The curriculum is of the highest standard and we are proud to have well trained staff, who are qualified and committed to giving your child a comprehensive, quality, biblically based education. We believe that School of Tomorrow providing A.C.E. is the tool that will help us achieve our goal of educational reform. The A.C.E. programme achieves this goal through:

Individualized Learning
Children are individuals and, therefore, do not learn at the same pace. Conventional systems of education cannot adequately address this issue. Your child may be a fast learner or one who takes a little longer. Consequently, he or she is completely at the mercy of the average pace that a teacher, in a conventional class, sets. It is possible for a normal child to function at a certain level for two or more years, either above or below their chronological age. This results in the faster learner becoming bored, while the slower learner is left behind. The class teacher does not have the time or the resources to assess the learner's real potential. The A.C.E. system, however, ensures that your child works at the appropriate level and pace for his or her present ability. Learners work independently on their academic subjects and the measure of their success is their own progress, which is carefully monitored.

Personalised Monitoring & Instruction
Our learners start their day by setting their own individual goals. They set the number of pages of work which they need to complete for that particular day. This teaches them to be productive, and teaches them time management and goal-setting skills. As they work, at their own pace, they are able to ask the supervisor (teacher) for personalized help. Learners are tested at regular intervals in order to monitor their progress. The pass mark for these tests is 80% (90% for Grade 1 - 3 level) before they may proceed to the next PACE (learner's workbook). This is achieved with very little stress and anxiety, as the learner has repeated the particular concepts three or four times before writing the PACE test. Learners are taught to take full responsibility for their learning, with the supervisor being there to help when they encounter any problems or difficulties.

Biblically Based Curriculum
What sets Bay Christian School apart from other forms of education is our biblically based curriculum. Children are encouraged to model their life on God's Word and to pursue wisdom. The Bible forms the core of the material that our children study. Each PACE contains a character development segment, which is designed to illustrate one of sixty-six character traits that Jesus exemplified through His ministry. Learners are required to memorize a different Scripture passage every month. This forms part of their overall progress. Our learners are also encouraged to discover their ministry gifts through the His Servants Programme. This is part of the A.C.E. curriculum that is focussed on discipleship and cultivating an attitude of Christian service towards others.

Diagnostic Testing
Each learner is assessed individually to ascertain the level at which he or she is best able to perform. A learner might perform at level three in English, but at level five in Mathematics. Conventional schools cannot address this issue. The learner may develop a gap in one learning area or be bored in another. It is vital that the learner works at a level at which he or she is able to achieve success. The goal is to achieve academic balance without any learning gaps in the basics of Mathematics, Reading and Writing, as well as the other learning areas.

Discipline
Learning cannot take place in a chaotic environment. The greatest need in education around the world is for schools to regain control and maintain discipline. Discipline is well defined and incorporated into the day-to-day process of an A.C.E. school. Many of the issues faced in other systems are minimized because our learners know what is expected of them and their young minds are kept productively occupied. Corporal correction is administered in extreme cases as, we believe, it is a directive that has been given by God in the training and developing of a child. Included in your Admissions Pack is a Corporal Correction Notification form. This form details the exact procedure that is followed should biblical admonition be required. Your child may not need help as far as discipline is concerned, but others may prevent your child from getting the best possible education due to poor discipline.

Nothing motivates like success!
