ABOUT Leanne Naidoo née Fernandez Counselling Psychologist B.A. Hons, H.D.E., M.A. (Counselling Psychology) HPCSA Registration No: PS 0092894 Practice No: 230 138 BACKGROUND Leanne is a qualified Counselling Psychologist. After obtaining a BA degree in English and Psychology as well as a Higher Diploma in Education (University of Stellenbosch), she spent a year travelling round the Eastern and Western Cape teaching life skills to young people in a wide variety of High Schools on a Youth for Christ drama-and-dance team. Subsequent to this she obtained an Honours degree and a Masters in Counselling Psychology from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. The focus of her dissertation was on the development of her therapeutic self, which included an exploration of whether training of counselling psychologists in South Africa is adequate or not, and her passion for the arts led her to also investigate the relevance and appropriateness of psychodrama in the South African context. She is currently in private practice in Port Elizabeth where she's also involved in a variety of different projects, including Teacher and Learner Care (basic counselling skills for teachers) and the Peace Promoting Schools Project with GMSA Foundation. Dealing with diversity and related issues through talks and workshops is one of Leanne's passions and she has delivered talks in various contexts in this regard. One of these talks was presented at the South African Girls' Schools Conference held in Grahamstown - read more about this talk in an article by Le Femme "Teaching how to overcome bigotry". As a result of many good years of teaching in high schools, Leanne still enjoys working with adolescents and thoroughly enjoys working with young people to help them to fulfill their potential through motivating them, teaching life skills, etc. She was invited by Eastcape Training Centre (ETC) to address the matrics of 2008 at their conference venue. The aim was to motivate grade 12 learners and provide them with some pointers as they prepared for their final exams.
