Mario Novello was born in Cuneo and did his catering training in Genova.
He gained valuable experience in leading hotels and restaurants in
England and Switzerland.

He came to South Africa in 1968. His first appointment being in
Port Elizabeth as manager of the Skyroof at the Marine Hotel.  When 

the Marine Hotel was  taken over by Southern Sun Mario was transferred
to the Hotel Elizabeth where he managed the Elizabeth Restaurant till 1973.

In that year he returned to Italy "for good", with his family. But within four months
they were back in Port Elizabeth where Mario returned to the Elizabeth Hotel to
manage "The Room at the Top" night club for 5 years. In 1978 Mario joined Harald
Puffing at the Cornflower Restaurant which he managed until the restaurant was sold.
He then moved to East London where he opened the first Mamma Leone's.

During January 1988 he returned to Port Elizabeth to open Mamma Leone's in
Parliament Street. After six years a decision was taken to move to a permanent
home in the Newton Park Greenacres area. With the additional accommodation
and kitchen facilities you can be assured of even greater satisfaction and comfort.

After 15 years Mamma Leone's changed hands in September 2009. The Name was changed to Ristorante Pecorino. In May 2010
Mario and Pat came back and are now running Pecorino's.
Mario and his staff welcome you to Pecorino whose name is
derived pecora, meaning 'sheep'. Pecorino is the name
of a family of hard Italian cheeses made from ewe's.
At Pecorino they have one aim in mind, and that is to ensure you
have a most pleasurable dining experience with us today.
Pecorino has gained a reputation for excellent quality
dishes, showing imagination and tradition side by side.
Of course, by only utilising the freshest of produce,
all meals are cooked to order and therefore certain
dishes can take twenty minutes to prepare.

selected to offer you a variety of wines to complement your meal.
