	The Story of the Sacramento The Portuguese Galleon Sacramento ran aground off Schoenmakerskop after heavy storms damaged most of its sails, and rudder, on the 30 June 1647. The 72 survivors set out to walk some 1350 km's to Mozambique. After an arduous journey lasting many months, only nine made it back to Delagoa Bay on 5 January 1648 where they were hoping to find a ship to transport them back to Portugal. The disaster is remembered by an original brass cannon from the dive site which points in the direction of the shipwreck site, placed at the starting point of the Sacramento Trail.
