please help me with something. i really want to get a tattoo, and i know exactly what kind of tattoo. but the thing bothering me is levitics 19:27-28. it states that we may not shave our beards or make any cuttings/marks into our body like the non believers did when they were mourning about something. If, today it is ok to shave our beards, is it then ok to have a tattoo?

Dear brother or sister in Christ

I have noticed in concurrence with some of your correspondents to your website, a very great concern about the errors currently sweeping the Charismatic/Pentecostal churches. This concern obviously, is very noticable especially in the area of what passes for "Prophecy" in the vast majority of Charismatic churches these days.

The word of the Lord is especially rigorous in this area of the testing of prophecy always, and for us to take the necessary action to prevent the dissemination of that which is false ....

Dear P E Church Net,

Much is said about stress and depression and the need to treat it.

Be that as it may, Dr Richard Bentall, a leading British psychologist went so far as to say that happy people suffer from a form of insanity which distorts their view of the world and that depressed people are better judges of what people think about them (Sunday Tribune 7 June 1992). Could Dr Bentall have a point?

To illustrate a possible interpretation of the above, consider Ecclesiastes 8:14 (the writer of Ecclesiastes was apparently depressed): "There is something else meaningless that occurs on earth: righteous men who get what the wicked deserve, and wicked men who get what the righteous deserve.

Could this not be compared with Proverbs 13:25? " The righteous eat to their hearts' content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry."

Is this as accurate as the Ecclesiastes assessment?

Dear brother in Christ

Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As a recent respondent from the UK to your website Discussion Forum will you please allow me to make one or two general observations on this particular venue for sharing the wonderful truth of God's word and Christian topics with each other?

As you are obviously aware, the venue will often be used for the airing of 'pet theories' or 'extra Scriptural revelation' (not given to lesser mortals!). A.W.Tozer once touched on this particular similarity when he wrote-- "It is now an accepted thing to talk over religious differences in public with the understanding that no one will try to convert another or point out error in his belief (or understanding of Scripture)."

One of the responsibilities we share as disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ is that we should be 'teachable', and we should be open to biblical correction by those who are accountable to the Lord for this function in the body of Christ, and according to biblical principles laid down in the New Testament ...

#10. Psychic phenomena and Ecclesiastes 10:20 ... (most recent post 18 November 2002)

Dear Discussion,

From the outset may I emphasize that I do not believe in experimenting with spiritual matters such as psychic phenomena (see Leviticus 19:31).

However, some time ago Eccl 10:20 caught my eye and remembering a discourse on the ability of prayer to reduce the ability of psychics to 'transmit' and some other conversations, I have some questions, but first let me say what I discovered about Eccl 10:20:

The King James states:"Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber:for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter."

On looking in Matthew Henry's commentary I found that they had an interpretation not involving the supernatural - the king gets to hear via spies, for instance.

However might it not appear a little odd that in the King James version it talks of a 'bird of the air' carrying the voice? Why not just say 'a bird' and omit the 'air' part? .....

#09. Church healing ... (most recent post 19 October 2001)

Dear Discussion,

When attending services at 'charismatic' churches one notes the amount of driving out of demons that accompany healing.

Whilst I do not deny the existence of demons it was interesting to read the following in 'A BASIC INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW TESTAMENT' edited by Robert C Walton:

'The idea that many illnesses were caused by demons was very common. The diseases themselves were spoken of as a 'spirit of leprosy', an 'asthma spirit', a 'spirit of heart disease', and the like.

Some healed by Jesus showed symptoms of madness (eg Mark 5:5) and here it might be good for us to treat the disturbed person in the gentle way suggested by James 5:13 to 15.

One may wonder if Ecclesiastes 10:20 does not suggest a belief in 'psychic phenomena' as it says, "Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter."

Listening to church members I was struck by how freely they talked of spiritual phenomena, 'hearing things', etc., and I thought of how differently psychiatry would often view this (perhaps classify them as mad).

For this and other reasons various churches are participating in a petition aimed at giving a priest more say in the diagnosis of psychiatric patients.

Churches can e-mail me at edmiller@isat.co.za for the petition.

Thanks
Eddie Miller

Calling GOD by other names (posted 22 July 2000)

Please email us your comments for posting to this page.

Often in American Talk-Shows they speak about the 'universe', 'nature',the 'spirit' etc. when we know very well they mean GOD.e.g.:-Guests on the Larry King Show, being a Jew[sic] but also apparently an atheist, one can perhaps understand the man's confusion, but Oprah now has Gary Zukov,ex marine, turned author, apparently a spokesperson for 'the universe' also pontificating and [I believe] confusing more Americans about 'their purpose in life'.

I am concerned because this drivel is now fed into our lounges daily.

CALLING GOD BY OTHER NAMES

Senior, sane and steadfast!

Welcome to the Discussion Forum. Please make yourself at home.

I don’t believe, in fact, I am positive, that Larry King, Oprah, Gary Zukov Or Depak Chopra, who was also on Larry King’s show, know or even believe in the existence of GOD as a person, who’s image and likeness we all were also made in. They and most people unfortunately due to lack of knowledge of GODS Word and good spiritual teachers, don’t know that GOD OUR FATHER the creator of the whole universe, and everything in it, including us, looks exactly like His Son Jesus and us.

We are all His sons when we believe in Him, and His Son.

As Jesus said, "If you want to understand the Kingdom of GOD or Know GOD, you have to have the mind of a child or be like a child". GOD is OUR DAD or as The Spirit says OUR ABA FATHER. Jesus even said, "If you have seen me you have seen the Father". Why? because they both look alike.

But as you say they see (the secret of Life) as the Universe, Mother Nature, a spiritual force, idolswith eight arms and funny heads and many other weird concepts of who God is or is not, such as our sub unconscious mind or spirit. Some even think they are God and are a part of him.

When have you ever heard any American or European ever talk freely or sing about GOD OUR FATHER the God and Father of Jesus. They I believe genuinely don’t know HIM.

As Isaiah said, they have been made purposely deaf and blind so they can not see the kingdom of GOD or any one in it. Let alone God himself. They don’t even know Jesus. They see him just as a very good prophet or teacher or Holy man, like so many others that God has sent.

We can only pray that God by the Power of HIS Holy Spirit will open their eyes one day soon before it is too late.

Help! What is the true Gospel message ? (posted 08 February 2000)

Dear South African Friends in Christ,

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved" and "All who call upon the nam eof the Lord will be saved". This is the true Gospel message which allows for some differences in expression and secondary doctrines and practices, in my opinion.

Hi

My name is Malvin P Kivedo and I believe All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness. Firstly I'd like to thank the leadership of pechurchnet for their vision in creating this forum, whereby we can endeavour to find the truth about God and His purpose for us as His creation.

In response to the above mentioned topic, I'd like to contribute the following:

I'll start at Matthew chapter 28:12-15. Here the Bible clearly states that the elders of the Jewish community gave the soldiers money to spread the lie that Jesus' disciples came to steal His body and that this lie is still being spread to this day. The resurrected Jesus though, comes in verse 18 and tells His disciples : All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

In the gospel according to Mark we read in chapter 16 verses 15 and 16 And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel (good news) to all creation. He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned. It is clear from these verses that the source of the gospel (good news) is Christ. It is preached by His authority and therefore we cannot change it nor add to it or subtract from it. The apostle Paul, by inspiration of the Holy Spirit writes the following to the Corinthian church in 1Cor.15:1-4 Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel (good news) which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that he was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

Note a few things about the gospel:

It is preached; it is received; one can stand in it (having a firm belief); it saves; it is the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.

This is then the true gospel (good news) to be preached throughout the world. Paul rebukes the Galatian church with these words: I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you by the grace of Christ, for a different gospel (good news); which is really not another; only there are some who are disturbing you, and want to distort the gospel of Christ. But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel (good news) contrary to that which we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel (good news) contrary to that which you received, let him be accursed.Gal.1:6-9

It is very clear that the apostle Paul is very serious in his plea that we not turn away from the gospel (good news).

You may ask what now? Well the Bible declares in 2Thessalonians 1:6-9 For after all it is just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. In other words if we want to escape the retribution of Christ we need to obey the gospel.

How do I do that?

Read Romans 6:3-6 (in paraphrase form) As Jesus was buried in the tomb, so the obedient believer is immersed into a grave of water in order to re-enact the burial of Jesus. Jesus was also resurrected. In like manner, the obedient believer is resurrected from the water in order to re-enact the resurrection of Jesus and to enter into Christ where he is in a saved relationship with God. Before Jesus went to the tomb, He was crucified. Before the obedient believer can be buried with Jesus in baptism, he must first repentantly die to sin by crucifying himself with Christ (Galatians 2:20)

Other examples of obedience to the gospel is Acts2:41-47; 8:5-18; 8:30-39; 9:17-18; 10:34-48; 16:13; 16:25-34; 18:8; 19:5

It is also very important to note that before one obeys the gospel, one must be committed to remain faithful to the commands of Jesus. Read Luke 14:25-35; Matthew 10:34 ; 39.

I trust that this will in some way help to get a better understanding of the true gospel message and that we will allow God to speak to us through His inspired word.

If everyone was preaching the same True Gospel Message we would all believe in the same thing and there would be total Love and Unity among all the Christian Churches. All other religions would even follow us. They would see the undeniable power of God's Love working in and through us.

But what do we have? 1,400 different Christian sects all preaching a different message and claiming they have the True Word of God and are right.

 All, claiming to be Christians.

It is common knowledge that nearly all horrific wars are based on religious differences, and are still raging all over the world. We don't believe what you believe. You are not of God but from the evil one. They are a lot of heretics. They don't believe what the majority know is right.

The most popular criticism - They interpret the Bible all wrong. They are not word based. or - Our Bible is better than theirs.

Sadly the masses of the populous come to believe in the existence of a God through the preaching of men. Which is what is supposed to happen, and due to illiteracy, the lack of to knowledge to know who to follow, or who to believe out of the 1400 divided Christians, they believe the first thing that is put into their heads from whoever and whatever. Mostly because of peer or parental pressure.

We all believe what we are told, until we are told something different that makes much more sense, or we go away and read up on the subject for our selves and come to our own conclusions. Thousands of people are totally disillusioned with the churches of today and what they preach. We need to know what is wrong, there are thousands seeking the truth.

Religious fanatics do the most heinous of deeds to impose their own belief's on others, even in their own religion. I heard on the news last week that woman in Algeria were having their throats cut by members of their own religion because they did not dress correctly. Intolerance of other religions or beliefs causes Ethnic Cleansing. The latest buzz word all over the world. But it is the same age old problem.

WE HAVE GOT THE TRUE GOSPEL MESSAGE. WE ARE OF GOD.

The Gospel says that there must be divisions and differences among us so that the truth can be revealed and to show which of us have Gods approval, 1 Corinthians 11 v17 to 19.

PE Churchnet has been set up to promote Harmony fellowship and above all Unity among the believer's, so let us with Gods help try to achieve this. God willing we will achieve this with ease to the agonizing cries of the False Apostles and Anti-Christ's.

ALL WE NEED IS FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND THE RIGHT TO BE HEARD.

Please try and quote exact Bible references as much as possible in italics.

Feel free to say what ever you want, or to give your opinion on comments made, or to support them. There are many sermons in the Bible that carry the true gospel message. The truth of which, when spoken can change peoples lives and bring them to God. Acts 10 v 44. Lets talk about them.

Which one's do you feel are relevant and powerful. If you feel that there are other reasons why the Christian religion is so divided and split up, lets hear from you and how you think we can rectify it. Or tell us what was that most dramatic thing you heard or happened to you to make you believe and turn your life around.

May God Bless all who deliberate hear with the Power of His Holy Spirit of Love Wisdom Understanding and Knowledge.

THE TRUE MESSAGE
FROM : COLOSSIANS - ex Paul

Above all else, I think we must first acknowledge that the true message is not so easy to grasp. Paul heard it and went of and killed hundreds of Christians, when he did grasp it he became the greatest teacher of all time. All the leaders of The Faith in Jerusalem also rejected Gods plan for them. WHY ? They had the best teacher, JESUS RIGHT THERE IN THERE CHURCH, yet they did not understand the message. Jesus turned to them one day and said the prostitutes and tax collectors understand GODS message for them and have entered the Kingdom of Heaven ahead of you because they were baptised. But you refused to be baptised and that is why you can not see GODS plan for you. Luke 7 v 29&30. Jesus also said you can not put new wine into old wine skins and old bottle's.

NEW WINE MUST GO INTO NEW CLEAN BODIES. NOT ONLY WASHED CLEAN OF THE OLD WAY OF LIFE AND FORGIVEN, BUT MADE A BRAND NEW CREATION IN THE BAPTISM WATERS.

The question we must ask ourselves is: Is this still happening today? Most churches treat baptism as a triviality a demonstration of faith of a previous conviction. Not the real thing which I believe it is, where in the water we are actually washed & reborn as a son into the kingdom of GOD, a brand new creation, like a child out of a mothers womb. Surely our initial declaration of faith in Jesus and in GOD is a preliminary event to the actual STEP OF FAITH. The major event and happening takes place in the water where it says we come up into the body of Christ, if we indeed do believe Luke 7 v 29 & 30, and Mark 16v16 which also very clearly says that whoever believes and is Baptised will be saved.

Yes we are ALL saved by FAITH and FAITH ALONE.
BUT FAITH IN WHAT & WHO?

FIRSTLY - GOD THE FATHER FROM WHOM ALL THINGS COME AND FOR WHOM WE LIVE AND HAVE OUR VERY BEING.

SECONDLY - JESUS, THAT HE IS GOD'S SON AND HEIR. THROUGH WHOM ALL THINGS COME AND THROUGH WHOM WE LIVE AND HAVE OUR LIFE. ( 1Cor 8v6 )

THIRDLY - BY FAITH IN GOD'S WORD. ALL HIS MANY PROMISES AND CONCEPTS AND PRECEPTS FOR A BETTER LIFE.

FOURTH - ALSO VERY & MOST IMPORTANT - FAITH IN THE POWER OF GOD'S HOLY SPIRIT TO HEAL US MOULD US AND SHAPE US AND SHOW US AND GIVE US ALL THINGS.

EVEN MAKE US A NEW CREATION IN THE WATERS OF BAPTISM. THE LIST CAN GO ON AND ON.

A key verse in Colossians could be Chapter 1v26 the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the saints. v 27 To them GOD has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, Chapter 1 v 5 talks about the word of truth, the gospel 6 that has come to us.

All over the world this gospel is producing fruit and growing, just as it has been among you since the day you heard it and understood GOD'S grace in all its truth.

In the last two thousand years we have lost this secret and the world I think everyone will agree has become ever more so horrifically evil immoral and corrupt. We Christians are divided and fall far short of the Unity and Love in The Spirit that we should have. The gospel should of been round the world a dozen times by now. The Spirit of GOD comes and goes in waves but never stays. Jerusalem still stands in ruins. But I believe that a new wind has already began to blow that has started to change the world and the believers in Christ, THE POWER of GOD. and GOD himself is doing this.

In Colossians, Chapter 2 v 8 Paul warns us "that we must see to it that no-one takes us captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human traditions and the basic principals of this world " With GOD'S grace let me try and explain why and where I think many have gone wrong and what I think is the true & right gospel message.

First and foremost the Gospel I believe is mostly about understanding GOD'S grace in all its truth. Colossians Ch 1v 6. Verse 9 goes on to say that Paul does not stop praying for us, and asking GOD to fill us with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. This wisdom and understanding we don't have and Paul is asking GOD to give it to us. That's where the miracle of Grace comes in. In verse 10 Paul goes on to say that he prays this, so that we may live a life worthy of the LORD and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of GOD.

Now this is where I believe most go wrong. Paul is not talking about Jesus the Christ hear in verse 10, He is talking about GOD the FATHER of Jesus. That we must be filled with the wisdom understanding and Knowledge of GOD and HIS will for us. Verse 6 Paul says we must understand GOD'S grace in all its truth. He is not talking about Jesus.

Verse 11- Lets go on. "being strengthened with all power according to HIS (that is GOD ) glorious might so that we might have great endurance and patience, and joyfully 12 give thanks to the Father, ( that is God not Jesus ) who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. 13 For HE (GOD) has rescued us from the dominion of darkness (not Jesus ) and brought us into the kingdom of the Son HE loves, (Jesus) 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (GOD is the one who clearly rescued us but he did it through his Son Jesus )

Chapter 2 v 13 says the same " When we were dead in our sins, GOD made us alive with Christ. He (GOD) forgave us all our sins, He took it away, nailing it to the cross. 15 he disarmed the powers and authorities, he (GOD) made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. 2v9 says that just as " in Christ the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form" 2v10 says that we also " have been given fullness in Christ". 2v11 "in him we were also circumcised in the putting of the sinful nature. 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through our FAITH in THE POWER of GOD" Who raised Him from the dead. as we have already said 2v13 "GOD made us alive with Christ He (GOD) forgave us all our sins. AND MADE US ALIVE WITH CHRIST

( THIS IS THE MYSTERY THAT WAS HIDDEN FOR AGES )
BUT IS NOT THE WHOLE MESSAGE - ITS HALF THE STORY.

The point I am trying to make is that it is GOD that so loved all of us that he gave up his one and only son to die on the cross for us?. Was it not God who lay all our sins and iniquities on his Son? and made him suffer for us at a price we could never re-pay?. Was it God that raised Jesus from the grave when he was dead? for surely he did really die for us, did he not ? or was he not really dead and the truth is that his friends rescued him as the Jews that crucified him said all along ? I think every Christian will agree that Jesus did die and His Father, GOD did raise him from the dead. 3v16 then makes a lot of sense " Let the word of Christ dwell in us richly as we teach and admonish one another with all wisdom as we sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in our hearts to GOD 17 And what ever we do whether in word or deed do it all in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ

( THIS IS THE PUNCH LINE THAT EVERY-ONE SEEMS TO MISS )
GIVING THANKS TO GOD THE FATHER THROUGH HIM. (V17)

The true gospel message has got to be about GOD as well as Jesus, the two go together like a lamp and oil, you can not have the LIGHT if you don't have both the lamp and the oil. There are 5 virgins that will confirm this. Plus Revelations 21v23&24. We have got to sing songs to GOD and about GOD The Father as well as Jesus. We must thank GOD for giving us HIS Son for giving us HIS Holy SPIRIT the same Spirit that HE so powerfully worked in Jesus when he was with us. The same Spirit that dwells in us. The same Spirit that God used to raise Jesus from the dead. Was it not Jesus who said to the lady at the well, The Father is looking for Spiritual worshipers to worship him in Spirit and in Truth?. Was it not Moses and Jesus that said that the most important commandment of all is to worship GOD?. Jesus did not say the most important one is to worship me. Jesus prayed to GOD, did he not ? and did he not tell us to pray to OUR FATHER who is in Heaven?. FOR HALLOWED IS HIS NAME.

My new Millennium prayer & message is that the whole world will soon be filled with the Glory of GOD. That glory, will be the singing and praises of those who Know HIM and LOVE HIM. Did Jesus not say "If you really knew me, you would know my Father also" "If you hear my voice you will hear my Fathers voice also. " Did Jesus not say in John 17v25&26 FATHER THE WORLD DOES NOT KNOW YOU. But I know you and they Know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them and I will continue to make you known so that the Love You have for me may be in them also.

DON'T YOU ALSO WANT THE LOVE THAT WAS IN JESUS THE POWER OF GOD'S HOLY SPIRIT ?

WILL YOU BE AMONG THOSE WHO ARE ALREADY SINGING THE PRAISES OF GOD AND HIS SON.

Yes the true gospel message for me is that we must not only believe in Jesus (which is what everyone is doing wrong ) but that even more important we must as the scripture tells us BELIEVE ALSO IN THE ONE WHO SENT HIM, THE GOD AND FATHER OF JESUS. John 3v16 to 21

It is time we practice Romans 15 v 5 May the GOD who gives endurance and encouragement give us a spirit of unity among ourselves as we follow Christ Jesus so that with one heart and mouth we may glorify the GOD and Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Tell me honestly have you ever even heard a sermon lately or even a song about GOD THE FATHER. There are plenty but no one ever sings them. In my church we had over 120 songs for the overhead , only 3 of them use to be directly and specifically about God. What is it like in your Church?.

May GOD bless all who read this with HIS SPIRIT of wisdom and revelation.
