This is an exciting new musical with original script and songs by Debbie Walker and Bryony Knighton-Fitt of P.E..Based on the biblical account of Esther - also celebrated annually in the Jewish festival of Purim - the musical will be staged to tie in with this festival which is on the 21 March 2000.

The story is set in the 5th century BC at a time in Jewish history when Esther a young jewess becomes queen of the Persian empire. Her people are scattered and under threat of destruction and she is called to risk her life to save them. It is a story filled with beauty, power, treachery, romance, intrigue, jealousy, victory and defeat - written to be as historically accurate as possible.

"Behind the scenes' are an excellent team -Bryony Knighton-Fitt (writer/director of 'Living stone I presume' seen at Mannville Theatre and Grahamstown Festival and receiving critical acclaim) will direct. She also performed in "The King and I' and 'Tom Jones' this year. Musical director is Fuzz Senekal, Kerry Schiff the choreographer. David Whitehouse lighting designer, Heila van der Merwe co-ordinating decor, set, props etc. Owner of 'Decor' she has been involved in productions at the Opera House including "Love Crucified" and "the Snow Queen" - also 'Alladin', 'Showtime' and various school productions.
