OPERATION MOBILISATION provides assistance in Kutch, India in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake there - assistance needed
Dear Mosesbhai,
In the midst of death and doom, many medical teams from outside India have risen to the occasion. In the immediate reaction to the quake, the medical teams consisting of doctors and nurses have made up their minds and decided to attend to their devastated Indian brethren. We as OM Gujarat are assisting in the transportations of the medico teams each of which comprised two doctors and 4 nurses including male nurse from Germany, humedica, a medical team of eight people which arrived at Ahmedabad yesterday comprised of few people from Village Baptist Church and of North West Medical team. >
Yesterday I received a phonecall from US based OM Office that five people are arriving at midnight in Mumbai and then to Ahmedabad. So this morning again we received five people team for medical work. We as OM Gujarat have taken up the task of reaching the essential medical support needed in the most affected areas. We are in constant touch with our other offices at Lucknow and Hydrabad for co-ordination. There are over 50 volunteers working round-the-clock at out office here at Ahmedabad and a kind of a cell has been created which is manned 24 hours not only for the co-ordination but also to guide the teams which are coming at all the times of the day and night.
The German team from humedica unit is taking care of Anjar and its surrounding villages. The unit of the Village Baptist Church and North West medical team shall be going to Rapar Area and will operate from there and a team from USA to Morbi. However many voluntary organizations were disappointed with the authorities handling and organizing of the voluntary help which is pouring into Kutch. Even the team of doctors who had reached on January 26th could do little as there were no facilities. It was difficult for the government authorities it locate the spots where urgent medical services were needed!
At present there are plenty of voluntary organizations helping the affected. But, I fear that after normalcy returns in the state ( do not know how long will it take) there would be no body to look after these patients. We continue to seek to provide what ever assistance we can, to meet the need of the people. But it is sad enough to see that the tents are not available in the market and some other necessary items are disappearing from the market.
We need much prayers and discretion as we found that there are about 1600 people whose legs had to be imputed in order to save their lives. They are without legs. Can we help them in some way ? There are also about 7000 children who have lost their parents. This is a very terrible situation. What can we do for them ? There are many people who need psychological treatment as they have gone in deep depression and are behaving abnormally and having nightmares.
Most urgent need that we as a Christian can provide is the counseling. We need to go and sit and talk to the people who have gone through this trauma. And for this we need more volunteers !
Will you join with us?
