SOAP BOX DERBY - THE RESULTS
The annual Soap Box Derby took place as planned in the Kings Beach parking lot on Wednesday (21st). This event is organised by Scripture Union and Inkanyezi; the weather was absolutely magnificent and the 11 teams energetic! The carts were rare feats of engineering and many thrills and spills made for exciting watching. Pumping muscles and sweaty brows were very evident. The music was really good and added greatly to the atmosphere. Sound this year was handled by Dave Opperman of Stage Audio Works - well done!
Our congratulations to the winners:
First Place and the Floating Trophy went to Ebenezer Centre's Youth Team;
- Second Place to Word of Faith;
- Third Place to the joint Methodist Team.
Shalom Youth won the prize for Team Spirit - with their tireless cheerleaders in orange head gear providing the vocal encouragement, spurring the team on. Quite a spectacle !
Word has it that a number of spies were on the scene checking out the carts - gleaning ideas for next year - trying to make the cart that will withstand the conditions of the race and maybe - just maybe - scoop that Floating Trophy!
