STATEMENT BY NEW PROVINCIAL LEADER
AFRICAN CHRISTIAN DEMOCRATIC PARTY - EASTERN CAPE

PRESS RELEASE
ISSUED BY : ACDP Eastern Cape
DATE : 5 August 2002

The ACDP Held it's Annual General Conference at the Gonubie Hotel in East London over the weekend, at which Cllr Colin Fibiger of the Nelson Mandela Metro was elected the new Provincial Leader.

Statement by Cllr Fibiger.

It is an honour to be chosen to lead, not only because of the position, but mainly because of the people who have chosen me. In any other Party, leadership is simply a function, but in the ACDP it becomes something more, because we are a people of ethics. A people committed to God and to Godly governance. To be elected by such people makes it an honour.

This is an exciting time to be involved in Christian democracy, because we are entering into a new era of politics in South Africa as well as a new move in the hand of God upon this nation.

The DA is falling apart at the seams, having beaten leftist rhetoric to death, and are finding themselves marginalized, with no place in the future government of our nation. Their lack of values and morally bankrupt policies will soon reduce them to a noisy little group of power seekers who in all probability will not even feature when our grandchildren read about this era of South Africa's past.

The ANC/SACP/COSATU alliance is barely held together by the threads of resistance from a few die hards who have failed to recognise their lack of capacity to take our country into tomorrow. As a totally socialist and dictatorial organisation, it is perhaps ironically fitting, that democracy, the very thing that brought them into power, will the the thing to destroy them.

If one combines these facts with the miraculous growth of the ACDP, the support from across the demographic spectrum of our people, there can be only one conclusion. The ACDP is destined to govern. We are the future.

The tide has turned, and anyone with enough long term perception and the wisdom to read between the lines will know that nothing can stop the relentless, persistent growth of Christian democracy in our nation.

I want to encourage the people of our nation to take heart. There is no need to live in fear for the future. Immigration is not the solution to the crime problem. Frustration is not the answer to the high levels of government corruption. There is a new government on its way, who is not afraid to proclaim the cross of Christ.

We are not embarrassed to be committed to justice. We are not afraid to treat criminals like criminals. We will not hesitate to call pornography filth instead of freedom of choice. We will not place political correctness above plain common sense or allow a perverted minority to impose it's will upon a morally upright majority.

We will offer South Africa something unique - integrity and honesty.

I commit myself during this term of office to the people of the province. I have been chosen not only to lead, but very much to serve. I lay myself at your feet, in submission to God and to you.

At my opening address, at the first council meeting of the Nelson Mandela Metro, I referred to a piece of scripture that speaks of a prophet in a time of drought, sending his servant to check the horizon. The servant returned with the sighting of a fist sized cloud on the horizon.

The prophet, knowing what the future held, sent out warning that all should prepare for a storm. I wish to close with a similar warning. We might look small.

Take care, the storm is coming.

Blessings to all
Colin Fibiger
