PRISON RADIO SERVICE: EASTERN CAPE
Towards the middle of 2002, an item for for prayer was printed in the Prayer Guide, Jericho Walls about Prison Broadcasting Network, Pollsmoor, Cape Town. I enquired, correspondence followed and I was asked to run a similar project at St Albans Prison P.E. Things got underway, however there were great delays. I nearly quit due to circumstances but the Lord had other plans and His will was done. A man who has previous radio experience was available to help. We asked Pollsmoor ministry to release us with their blessing which they did and we liaised with businessmen in the city, who sponsored equipment. Correctional Services provided an office and we were able to rig out a fully equipped studio. This studio was officially opened on 26 March 2003. Negotiations were also carried on with the top management of Radio Kingfisher and Prison Radio Service will operate as an affiliate to Radio Kingfisher for all purposes. Prison Radio Service the first of its kind in the Eastern Cape.
God willing, it is hoped to start broadcasting on 31 March via the internal public address system in St Albans prison to prisoners at Maximum section as a start, later extending to other sections. Only Christian programmes and music will be presented as a means of assisting in rehabilitation and so that more people could hear the gospel and be saved at the same time addressing matters which could help uplift inmates and bring hope. It is not meant for entertainment at all. The Holy Spirit is the founder of this ministry. To God be the glory.
Kind regards.
