A CHRISTIAN LITERATURE MINISTRY IN BLUEWATER BAY
FUNDANI CHRISTIAN BOOKS (TEL 041-466 5306)

In Christian Literature work we are in a ministry employing one of the most powerful tools, I believe, to reach out to people who are in need of spiritual support. Therefore our business is not in the first place Christian book selling. We are here to supply in peoples spiritual needs. In doing so we want to play a supportive role to the churches. I am convinced that in this ministry we cannot do without the support of the church and I would like the church to realise that they cannot do without a supportive Christian Literature ministry. This ministry can only enhance that of the church.

The question may well be asked, What is a Christian Literature Ministry? What does it consist of?
 1. Indentify a need within the church.
 2. Find suitable Christian Literature relevant to the very needs of the people.
 3. Recommend this literature to our people with a clear indication of the purpose you want to serve.
 4. With the co-operation of the Church, establish a distribution system to bring the books within reach of all those as defined in the area of need (target market).
 5. Develop and establish an effective application programme for the particular book or books. It is of no value to recommend a book without a suitable programme to put it into use.
 6. Support the entire process from the point of determining the need, to the completion of the use of the particular book with an active prayer support programme.

Reaching out to people in person “face to face” remains the ideal. It was calculated that by the year 2000 the world will contain six thousand million people. From this number one third are Christians while another third are only nominal Christians living amongst Christians but they never made a commitment for the Lord. The last third are unreached people groups. From the one third Christians only 9,9% are believed committed Christians.

It is this population explosion which has caused Christian leaders to conclude that if the entire world is ever to hear of Christ, the church must become totally involved in world evangelism. There is general agreement among them that one of the key ingredients in the fulfilling of this great responsibility is the increased use of literature. Many have expressed their belief that the only means of reaching every person with the Gospel is through use of the printed page.

We have identified the need of our Xhosa speaking people to have access to Bibles, Hymn books and other quality Christian Literature. Primarily we want to supply in their needs within their reach. We want to reach out to them but this is not something we can really accomplish all on our own. We need the support of the church to make this possible.

Our books are sold at normal trade prices but we are quite prepared to subsidise, within our means, where people cannot afford to buy it at market related prises.

The official opening our Christian Bookshop, FUNDANI CHRISTIAN BOOKS, took place on Friday morning, 17th December at 10:00 at N2 City Shopping Centre in Bluewater Bay. (FUNDANI means “You have to read”)
