PRISON RADIO SERVICE: EASTERN CAPE
Towards the middle of 2002, an item for for prayer was printed in the Prayer Guide, Jericho Walls about Prison Broadcasting Network, Pollsmoor, Cape Town. I enquired, correspondence followed and I was asked to run a similar project at St Albans Prison P.E. Things got underway, however there were great delays. I nearly quit due to circumstances but the Lord had other plans and His will was done. A man who has previous radio experience was available to help. We asked Pollsmoor ministry to release us with their blessing which they did and we liaised with businessmen in the city, who sponsored equipment. Correctional Services provided an office and we were able to rig out a fully equipped studio. This studio was officially opened on 26 March 2003. Negotiations were also carried on with the top management of Radio Kingfisher and Prison Radio Service will operate as an affiliate to Radio Kingfisher for all purposes. Prison Radio Service the first of its kind in the Eastern Cape.
God willing, it is hoped to start broadcasting on 31 March via the internal public address system in St Albans prison to prisoners at Maximum section as a start, later extending to other sections. Only Christian programmes and music will be presented as a means of assisting in rehabilitation and so that more people could hear the gospel and be saved at the same time addressing matters which could help uplift inmates and bring hope. It is not meant for entertainment at all. The Holy Spirit is the founder of this ministry. To God be the glory.
Kind regards.
Johan Barkhuizen

TRINITY BROADCASTING NETWORK - EAST CAPE BROADCASTS
These originate from Bisho and we have now installed a 20 kilowatt TV transmitter which is being received in many part of Port Elizabeth. We found that this was second prize to being able to place a repeater transmitter, application for which has been turned down by the licensing authority on three occasions when we applied. Here we would ask for prayer as we entered into litigation for the placement of a transmitter in Port Elizabeth and felt we had a strong case in this connection. Unfortunately we lost our High Court case however was, after arguing our leave to appeal were granted this leave and are now waiting for the court date on which our appeal will be heard in the Appeal Court, Bloemfontein. Please pray for this case as Port Elizabeth together with other issues against which we have appealed will be considered and our " conditions of broadcasting" will determine how we operate in the future.
On a much happier note we are pleased to report that the TBN satellite service which was commenced in May 2002 is doing fine. God is really blessing our efforts and we have seen a tremendous increase in phone calls for prayer at the Prayer Call In Centre which is situated in River Park, East London. Last month we had the highest number of calls since commencement of the call-in centre and this passed the 5000 call mark. This was besides callers who called for information such as bank account details and supplying of the newsletter. These calls were from people who needed spiritual help and wanted prayer. The service has just been moved to Channel 77 on the DStv bouquet and this is a better channel for easier location. All the administration is carried out at River Park in East London and the final control and playout is carried out from a new facility which we have purchased in Randburg.
As an arm to the local church we believe that TBN has a definite role to play and we would like all the readers of the newsletter to realise this and to pray and support us as we seek to provide the best in Christian TV to meet the needs of body, mind, soul and spirit for all age groups.

HUMAN
CLONING FLAWED DUE TO FLUKE OF BIOLOGY
Recent
Evidence on Human Cloning brings a new dimension to DFLs
upcoming National Conference on Medical Ethics. Doctors for Life
International (DFL) notes the new evidence showing major flaws in the
human cloning process. Scientists in the United States say hundreds
of attempts to clone monkeys have ended in failure. Their research
concludes that the biological make-up of the oocyte (egg cell) of
primates, including humans, makes cloning practically impossible.
When attempting to clone primates, it was found that as the egg cell
divides, the DNA is unevenly distributed, the cells ending up with
too much or too little genetic information.

WHAT IS PE CHURCH NET? ... AND HOW YOU CAN HELP
Port Elizabeth Church Net was established in 1999 as an inter-denominational non-profit networking organisation working towards unity among churches and Christians in the Port Elizabeth area and surrounds. We do this largely through the medium of our Internet website, this newsletter and various other electronic communications. We seek to work together with, and in support of, all bona fide Christian organisations, ministries and churches in our area.
Most of our current income comes from advertising revenue from our Christian Business Directory; however this is not sufficient to cover our modest monthly operating costs. It is therefore once again necessary for us to issue an appeal for sponsorship, either one-off or on a monthly basis. We are also in need of updated computer equipment. We trust that you are finding the services we provide to be of value and would ask you to prayerfully consider assisting to support our ministry.
Can you help? Please give us a call on 041 466-5696 or email shaun@pechurchnet.co.za
