Declaration of Intent
Our Dear NIRSA Friends in Christ,
This is coming to those of you who attended the NIRSA gathering on April 22nd and 23rd at the Birchwood Conference Centre in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, and it is also going to those of you who were invited but could not attend.
The Declaration as it currently stands is the product of not only the original drafters but of many, many brothers and sisters in Christ who have sent their reflections, critiques, input and suggestions. Like any other document of its kind, it undoubtedly has significant imperfections and shortcomings, but we would encourage you not to focus on these but rather on the positive resolutions and recommendations which are here and which reflect the sincere concerns of many Christian leaders in almost all different domains across this nation. The desire is to be faithful to our Lord Jesus Christ and His Word and to encourage the Lord’s people to move out in fresh and relevant application of our faith and convictions in terms of the great needs of the society around us.
As you receive this document we would hope that the chances are good that you will find a number of places and items where you yourself would like to join in concert and in partnership with others to help forward some particular initiative or action. As you indicate as much to the NIRSA office, the appropriate linkages can be made to facilitate this. Of course our particular desire is that people would simply move spontaneously of their own initiative wherever they feel motivated or inspired to do so.
We also feel there would be value in pastors particularly taking the document and exegeting and explicating it to their congregations as a possible charter and agenda for the way forward in addition to the many wonderful things which many congregations, groupings, organisations and NGOs are already doing. None of what is outlined in the Declaration bears the assumption that it is not already being implemented already in some quarters of the Body of Christ. All we would be seeking to do is to strengthen that which is already happening and to encourage whatever new initiatives in association and fellowship which seem appropriate.
We would encourage all to keep this process in prayer and to lift up to the Lord the great needs in our country for reformation, revival and renewal. Our leaders on all sides in the political arena need much prayer and of course the wisdom which comes from above and which thankfully is promised, as we ask for it and seek it (see James 1:5-6).
We would underline that we have not formed any new organisation but are only seeking to promote the reformation of South Africa at this time.
We extend to you our warm Christian greetings and look forward to hearing from you as and when appropriate.
If there are some of you out there who would like to contribute financially to the follow-up processes of NIRSA, we would be thankful indeed.
The Lord bless each one of you and keep you in His love, protection, grace and peace.
Warmly in Christ,
