DISCUSSION FORUM |
This prayer was actually spoken before the Kansas State Legislature. Some have suggested that the preacher should be elected (and I agree!) When minister Joe Wright was asked to open the new session of the Kansas Senate, everyone was expecting the usual politically-correct generalities, but what they heard instead was a stirring prayer, passionately calling his country to repentance and righteousness.
The response was immediate. A
number of legislators walked out during the prayer in protest. In six
short weeks, the Central Christian Church had logged more than 5,000
phone calls with only 47 of those calls responding negatively. The
church is now receiving international requests for copies of the
prayer from India, Africa and Korea.
Commentator PAUL HARVEY aired the
prayer on The Rest of the Story on the radio and received a
larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired!
THE PRAYER
Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says: "Woe on those who call evil good." but that's exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
We confess that:
We have ridiculed the
absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism.
We have worshiped other
gods and called it multi-culturalism.
We have endorsed perversion
and called it an alternative lifestyle.
We have exploited the poor
and called it the lottery.
We have neglected the needy
and called it self-preservation.
We have rewarded laziness
and called it welfare.
We have killed our unborn
children and called it a choice.
We have shot abortionists
and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to
discipline our children and called it building self-esteem.
We have abused power and
called it political savvy.
We have coveted our
neighbor's possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air
with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the
time-honoured values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.
Search us, O God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of your will.
I ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Hope you find this will stimulate discusion:
The context of the prayer is very true of the world today. What is disturbing is that half the people got up and walked out. They could not take the words of truth that were spoken. What is wonderful is that there was freedom of speech. His message went out for people to accept or reject. We are free to believe what he said or reject it. What a tragedy it would of been if those words died where they fell and were never repeated. Gods words are like rain falling on the earth. They never fail to nourish and give growth and accomplish their purpose. I am sure he will never be asked to talk again. Like every messenger or prophet that God has ever sent into the world even his one and only son, this world even today rejects them and tries to silence them.UNITY of the churches will come only when there is freedom of speech and everyone has the right to voice their own opinions of who is right and who is wrong. For it is written that there must be differences of opinions so that the TRUTH can be revealed. Jesus was and still is the way and the
truth to the Father. But did they give him a fair hearing. No. Right throughout the world we all scream for democracy and freedom of speech and existance. Wars are being raged against dictatorships to free the people. We in the Church of Christ must make sure that everyone has the right to give their opinion for all to hear. Even if it is a wrong statement. God will make it clear for all to see who is right and who is wrong. For we are all led by the same Spirit of God. Where there is freedom of speech God can reveal himself to us and his words can be heard.IT IS TIME WE SAID BLESSED IS HE THAT COMES IN THE NAME OF OUR GOD.
God bless you all with his insight.
