#11. Some Observations regarding this Discussion Forum ... (most recent post 13 October 2001) Please email us your comments for posting to this page.
From: "Ron
Johnson" <rgjkathab@onetel.net.uk> Dear brother in Christ Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. As a recent respondent from the UK to your website Discussion Forum will you please allow me to make one or two general observations on this particular venue for sharing the wonderful truth of God's word and Christian topics with each other? As you are obviously aware, the venue will often be used for the airing of 'pet theories' or 'extra Scriptural revelation' (not given to lesser mortals!). A.W.Tozer once touched on this particular similarity when he wrote-- "It is now an accepted thing to talk over religious differences in public with the understanding that no one will try to convert another or point out error in his belief (or understanding of Scripture)." One of the responsibilities we share as disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ is that we should be 'teachable', and we should be open to biblical correction by those who are accountable to the Lord for this function in the body of Christ, and according to biblical principles laid down in the New Testament. I have found, in my 23 years since conversion, and in those years of constant study and searching for truth , that the word of God itself should be the ONLY guidance and limitation necessary in our quest, and that the following Scripture has provided that discipline for me:- 1 Corinthians 4:6, "Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn not to exceed what is written...." 2 Peter 1:20, "But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one's own interpretation." 2 John 9, "Anyone who goes too far and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God." And the final warning about 'pet theories', 2 Timothy 4:3,4, "For the time will come, when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires; and will turn away from the truth, and will turn aside to myths." This is the apposite truth of God's word for the present church, what with the plethora of unbiblical teaching sweeping through and deceiving the body of Christ.
