True Love Waits |
The issue of Aids/sexuality is a huge issue that we need to be educating young people in. YFC (Youth for Christ) has been doing this in schools and church groups for some years now, by running a programme called True Love Waits in schools throughout the PE area. This is proving to be a very effective preventative/awareness creating, value changing tool in ministry to young people.
What is True Love Waits?
Youth for Christ runs a programme called True Love Waits, a sexual abstinence campaign that seeks to offer an alternative to the Safe Sex message. The purpose of the programme is to inform, inspire and challenge students to choose to refrain from sex before marriage. South African youth are receiving many varied messages about sexuality. Our message of commitment to abstinence until marriage is a positive way of addressing the issues of self-image, peer pressure, HIV/Aids, STDs, pregnancy, abortion and rape.
What are the goals of True Love Waits?
To communciate to teenagers the spiritual, emotional and physical value of abstaining from sex until marriage.
- To challenge families to address, discuss and develop acceptable levels of sexual behaviour.
- To provide schools a way of supporting parents and their teenagers as they express their commitment to sexual abstinence.
- To communicate to students, teachers and families a working alternative to the "safe sex" message.
