WEBTIPS ...

It has been highlighted to us once again that there is a need to provide user education given the phemonenal growth in use of the Internet. We will therefore be starting a series of "Internet Tips" which will hopefully provide guidance to the novice, and maybe even teach the experienced surfer a thing or two.

So here goes: we sometimes receive complaints that webpages haven't been updated as requested. This can usually be atrributed to the function of the "disk cache". To explain ...

When you visit a website, your browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Fifecox) saves the files from the website onto the hard disk of your computer. The next time you visit the same site, your PC checks your hard disk and will often load the files from there. The result of this is that it significantly speeds up your internet access, as your hard disk can transfer data 10 or more times faster than your modem. The downside is that you may be viewing an older version of a page that has changed.

You can set the <options> in your browser to check for newer versions of the page.

So .. be sure to periodically hit the <reload> or <refresh> button in your browser to make sure you are getting the latest version of a page!
