Dear Friends
 This prayer booklet is the most important non-scripture publication printed by the Bible Society of South Africa.
 It will enable you to systematically focus your prayers on Bible needs in specific countries and regions throughout the world. Week by week you will be uniting in prayer with persons throughout the world as you pray for the Bible Society cause.
 The General Secretary of the world-wide fellowship of the United Bible Societies, the Rev Fergus Macdonald, has asked that Bible Society supporters give special thanks to God for the distribution achievements of the past decade
 * 100 million Bibles,
 * 110 million New Testaments and
 * more than 5 billion Gospels, Portions and Selections were distributed world-wide.

 None of us will ever know the impact these Scriptures make on people's lives but is it not thrilling to think that our Lord Jesus said) "No one who drinks of the water I give will ever be thirsty again. The water is like a flowing fountain that gives eternal life. "(John 4: 14 CEV).
 These impressive distribution figures could not have been achieved without the prayers and support of donors such as you. For it is your support that enables our Bible Society, together with other Bible Societies, to make Scriptures available throughout the world.
 However the need for Bibles grows greater each year and many of our donors are already giving as much as they can. Some donors can no longer maintain their present level of giving to the Bible Society.
 Pray that the Bible Society will still receive sufficient donations to meet present Bible needs. You can further help us: do you know of someone who would like to support Bible distribution? If you do, please add their name and address to the form on the back cover and send it to the Bible Society.

BIBLE SOCIETIES & THEIR WORK
The fellowship of Bible Societies includes 135 affiliated Societies and offices which work to translate, print and distribute the Scriptures in more than 200 countries and territories around the world.

In 1946 these Societies formed the United Bible Societies (UBS) through which their work is co-ordinated. The UBS is an international service organisation which assists the combined efforts of the national Societies and administers the finances pledged for world-wide Bible work. The UBS also helps co-ordinate the translation and production of Scriptures, and acts as an information point, gathering and sharing Bible news from around the world.

The world-wide fellowship of Bible Societies asks people to pray for the spread of God's Word throughout the world: "The prayer of a good person has a powerful effect" (James 5:16). The fellowship is held together by prayer, countries are opened to the Bible through prayer, and the funds to translate, print and distribute Scriptures come through prayer.

Every Bible Society is grateful for your prayers and we ask God that all who pray for the spread of the Gospel may be increasingly blessed by it themselves.

ABOUT THIS BOOK
The Prayer Booklet is a guide to prayer, giving a brief paragraph about Bible work in a particular country. It is not primarily meant as an information source; further information on the work in a particular country can be obtained from your national Bible Society. Each paragraph is a pointer to prayer, indicating areas that the national Society would like us to focus on. The booklet is divided into sections to be covered in one week - usually three or four countries. The following guidelines offer more general information on the work of national Societies and some of the difficulties they face. These guidelines should be used to supplement the specific prayer entries for each country.
