YOUTH for CHRIST |
WHO ARE WE ?
YOUTH FOR CHRIST was established fifty three years ago. Doctor Billy Graham was the first full time worker for the organisation. YFC now operates in 21 centres around South Africa and in 127 countries around the world. YFC is a nondenominational, nonprofit youth agency. YFC Port Elizabeth is committed to uplift and develop young people from all walks of life. Our philosophy of ministry is based on the Balanced Life concept, i.e. in developing young people socially, physically, mentally and spiritually. This is portrayed in the programmes we offer.
HOMELESS CHILDREN:
ST CHRISTOPHER'S SHELTER
ST CHRISTOPHER'S is a temporary "drop in" shelter for homeless children. St Christopher's provides a warm meal and bed for the children and where possible places children back with their families.BAAKENS VALLEY CENTRE
It follows the structure of a Children's Home where the boys are provided with an environment of routine, structure and learning. School going becomes part of their daily programme with regular participation in extramural activities. There is a strong emphasis in the daily programme on life skills training and developing the boys so that they can be reintegrated into the community at large. The programmes are based on Biblical principles and the boys are encouraged to develop a strong devotional life. Family involvement is also important and where possible, children are placed back home with their families.
TEAM YFC
Team consists of 5 or 6 young people who have given one year of their life to reach the lives of other youth through drama, dance, life skills training and sports coaching. After training they are sent out as a self contained team throughout the country to assist the YFC centres in their work in high schools.
