CITY INTERCESSORS PRAYER LETTER

This newsletter is published to give us direction and focus as we join together to pray for transformation.

03 April 2001

Dear City Intercessor

It seems like ages since a letter went out to the prayer co-coordinators. Praise the Lord, that the Holy Spirit is the one who orchestrates the symphony of prayer. I was so encouraged to hear from a lady in a group where I recently shared a word of encouragement on prayer, that what I had shared had been preached in her own church, the previous Sunday. I once again realized that He has got it all under control, there is one God, one Lord, one Spirit and One Body, and as we hearken unto His voice, His work is done in the Spirit.

I know that some may feel that there isn't much happening at the moment, we seemed to start with such gusto, but these are the feelings that I have on the matter, (and trust that this will be an encouragement) I would appreciate feedback from those who are seeking the Lord in the area of city transformation.

Firstly, we are not to compare ourselves with what God is doing in other cities, (I'm sure that you have been very encouraged by what recently took place in Cape Town - Cape Town is a vital key, not only in this nation but also for the continent of Africa, so let us rejoice for what God has done there, and continue in well doing in prayer). We are a unique city, and at a particular level in the process of where we are going. It is a process, and certain things need to be in place before we can go on to the next step.

PRAYER POINTERS:

  • Let us pray for the Lord to continue to move in the foundations of transformation for this city - He already has done so much in the area of lifting the vision of the leaders in the city from "own kingdom" vision to HIS KINGDOM, but there is a need for a greater BURNING IN THE HEARTS' OF THE LEADERS FOR THIS VISION, AND A GREATER SENSE OF URGENCY TO SEE THE CITY TAKEN FOR JESUS.

Let us pray for the Lord to root out every root of pride that will cause competition when the move does come, which surely it will do if we do not become weary. Now is the time to lay correct foundations. It may feel as if nothing much is happening, but I believe that the Spirit of God has taken the "prayer move" into the secret place, of quietness and waiting on Him, to hear from His, to be in a position to SIMPLY OBEY, (it takes out all striving - which can only produce the wind) IT IS SO VITAL THAT WE HEAR FROM THE LORD. Every word that the Lord speaks in this area, needs to be passed onto the central source, which is A.E offices, so that we can ALL corporately work together on what God is saying. This is not the DOING STAGE, but the WAITING stage, and then we will rise up in power. Don't misunderstand me, waiting is not passive, but involves praying and fasting and seeking His face. Let us encourage those who we are working with to rise up in greater strength and determination in prayer.

  • Secondly. I believe that we need to really pray and cry out to the Lord to burn into our hearts the AGAPE love of God for the city, which is not an emotionally "thing" but a covenant "thing". This has to be in place or else we will not have the endurance to go through with it. God needs to break our hearts for the lost of the city. Pray for the Lord to stir up in our hearts, the hearts of our leaders, and the congregants throughout the city a love and compassion for the lost.

Paul said that the (Agape) love of God, compelled him to preach the gospel, and in my experience that is the only motivator that "gets me doing" the things I know I should be doing. When last has the love of God so moved you as to do an act of kindness to display the love of God (not our own) to someone outside of the Kingdom? As the love of God grips the hearts of His body, to pray for particular things that are on His heart, it will stir us up.

  • At this time let us continue to pray and seek the Lord for the less fortunate and the needy, that He would thrust forth laborers (powerful laborers) who will carry His message of reconciliation and peace to men.

I would like to set a date to get together with ALL (or as many as possible) of the prayer co-coordinators for a time of exhortation and encouragement, and prayer for one another, some time early n the new term, please let me know how you feel about that.

Remember, the task that you have set, to encourage the pray-ers in your particular area, and to keep in touch with the Pastor's to keep them encouraged, is great, but sufficient unto the task is His grace, and great is your reward.

I would also like to encourage you to make it known that from next term I will be using Suzette Hatting videos on intercession again for training the intercessors in the city. Should any of you be interested or know of anyone who you think would benefit from these teachings, please let me know Tel: 356 1431. (This is an excellent tool for training - unfortunately I AM NOT ABLE TO LEND THEM OUT).

Love
