AWARENESS ABOUT A.L.S. AND M.N.D. DISEASE
We're creating awareness around the World via E.Mail for A.L.S and
M.N.D - which are abbreviations for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and
Motor Neurone Disease respectively.
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a rare condition, which is caused by the
breakdown of the nerve cells in the brain that control the muscles used
to move (voluntary muscles), but not the nerves dealing with sensation.
The parts of the brain dealing with intelligence and awareness also
remain unaffected.
There are three main types of MND, which affect different nerves:
* amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), which
affects about half of people with MND,
* progressive muscular atrophy (PMA),
* bulbar palsy - when the throat muscles
are principally involved.
Unfortunately, there is currently no cure, and most people with MND
will die from it within a few years. There are some notable exceptions,
however. Stephen Hawking, the physicist, noticed his first symptoms
– clumsiness in his hands – over 40 years
ago.
The cause of this terrible illness isn’t known but
dedicated research is underway to understand the causes, and develop a
cure.
Please pass this message on to create much needed awareness. Please
also say a prayer for all those patients, their families, carers,
friends, M.N.D./A.L.S. organisations and Hospices who are affected by
this devastating disease.

JUDEA
HARVEST UPDATE - 1,000 TENTS IN SERVICE TO GOD!
See the following report from
Judea Harvest: "The Judea Harvest outreach project is not only one of
the biggest Christian outreaches in southern Africa, it is a project
that transforms communities, applying a holistic ministry approach and
is implemented with the 1,000 tents that have been deployed in the past
six years! Judea Harvest was founded in April 1999 as an evangelistic
movement to reach people in the informal settlements, as well as rural
areas with the gospel. Pastor Hansie Henning says the vision is to work
in the neglected areas of Southern Africa, thus taking the church to
the people. More than 3,500 congregations of all denominations work
together in this vision. Under the leadership of Martin Deacon,
WorldTeach and its donors have contributed more than 350 tents towards
the partnership. The miracle of the 1,000 tents deployed in southern
Africa, costing more than 18 million Rand, was mainly paid for by local
congregations and business people in South Africa. This is a remarkable
investment into our communities, proving that the Christians of our
nation believe in the future of South Africa, as the gospel of Christ
transforms our cities, towns and villages. Judea Harvest runs workshops
training pastors in teaching "GOD'S ANSWER TO AIDS"; more than a
million people have been reached with this message in the Judea Tents.
Judea Harvest is dreaming of implementing 3,000 tents in southern
Africa and 10,000 tents all over Africa!"

KLEMA
Klema is a ministry of the DRC Summerstrand, growing out of the old
"student church" ministry. Although we are defining our own separate
identity it remains part of the DRC group. We are defining our church
to attract seekers, and people who still believe in DRC values but are
looking for a more modern (culturally relevant) way of worshipping.

NIGHT
SHELTER FOR HOMELESS IN PORT ELIZABETH
We are very excited at Maranatha Streetworker Trust because after three
years at the mission we will soon be able to address one of the biggest
needs in Port Elizabeth. We hope to open the first night shelter in
Port Elizabeth. Strange as it may seen P.E. does not have a night
shelter where a destitute person can overnight – other
cities and even smaller towns have night shelters. We often receive
phone calls from churches or individuals inquiring where they can send
someone, in need of overnight accommodation. All the ministries with
more long term facilities are full most of the time and do not cater
for overnight facilities. Many people on the road from other centres
end up at the mission after being robbed of all their possessions.

LIVING
WORD / ISONDLO SOMPHEFUMLO
This is the name of a series of booklets of daily Bible readings. Each
day, there is a passage for reading; a key verse, a comment and usually
a prayer. They are designed to stimulate regular personal study of the
Scriptures and to provide guidance on the meaning and application of
Scripture at a basic level.
Each booklet also contains three Bible Studies/ Sermons and
two Questions and Answers on practical Biblical or devotional subjects.
These are of interest to all Christians but were designed to provide
sample Bible Studies for lay preachers with no formal training.
Books from the Old Testament and from the New are covered
in a systematic way and the whole Bible is covered in three years of
reading.
The booklets are A5 size, printed in black and white, with
a coloured cover. They are produced quarterly in English and Xhosa and
are available from Dumisani Theological Institute, 15 Leopold Street,
PO Box 681, King William's Town (Tel/Fax: 043 642 4737; ).
You can purchase a one-off copy or a year's subscription. There are
special terms for bulk orders.
Ideal for yourself or for giving to others whom you are
