The Church working together for the Metro
Dear Church Leader
During the last 24 months the church leadership group embarked on a process of researching the priority needs of the communities we serve. We spent our time listening to very competent people, from all walks of life, advising us on how they think the church could make a greater impact in the community outside the four walls of our church buildings.
During the exercise we became aware that there were a number of different church networks tackling the same priorities - all with very limited resources. A “Faith in the City” work group was put together to eliminate unnecessary duplication. Gary Koekoemoer from the “Peace and Development Initiative” was approached to facilitate the process. The group, nominated by a group of Bishops and Denominational Heads to participate on their behalf, were Neville Goldman, Zwelidumile Tom, Glenton De Kock and Trevor Jennings.
After three months of analysis, debate and studying the aims and objectives of the SACC (9), NMBCCC (6) and Bishop’s Group (5), we realised that together we were trying to tackle no less than 20 projects - an impossible task. We then set out to work as “one new team” to align our activities with the priorities of NM Bay. It was decided to eliminate all duplication and work together on six focus areas. We used a peer recommendation approach to suggest persons who were thought best suited or already working in that space to champion the six focus areas.
It was decided to organise the NM Bay Church family into five special focus networks ie Bishop’s Monthly Meeting, SACC, NMBCCC, Mission and Evangelism and Prayer Network. We want to ensure that there is a place for every Christian in NM Bay to be part of this Nehemiah Vision /Outreach.
The objective of this communiqué is not to supply you with a long explanation of all the activities and processes we undertook to come to these conclusions, but merely to update you on positive developments in our ongoing unity process in NM Bay. Detailed explanations of the role of each network will be available from leaders of the five different networks.
We believe this is a major breakthrough for relations, especially in the area of the racial divide in NM Bay. We believe the metro is now poised to effectively implement its Nehemiah Vision to the furthest corners of our metro. Three important documents are available which sum up this communiqué in a nutshell.

- NM Bay Church Unity Structure: Unity Task Team will serve as a special “John 17: 21 unit”. TCN will maintain a citywide database that will be available for all networks and any other Kingdom related initiatives. TCN will help to keep the implementation of the six chosen focus areas moving “forward”.
- NM Bay Church: Focus Areas. Six chosen focus areas, champions and core team members.
- Nehemiah Vision Roll out Plan: Members of the working team will visit all Pastors’ Fraternals and municipal cluster structures to ensure that everybody is in the picture. Meetings with political parties and business persons will be held during rest of 2016 and 2017 to promote unity of purpose in NM Bay.
